Nikon’s high-end 36MP D800 and D800E DSLRs have been consolidated with the release of the D810. It is not simply an upgrade: major changes substantially extend its capabilities and make the camera more attractive to buyers considering a move to a full-frame camera.  Some features from the D4s have been incorporated into the D810. Videographers, for example, will be pleased with additions to their video feature set. Other refinements include a redesigned shutter and mirror mechanism to reduce the shock of shutter actuation, which can reduce the resolution. There’s also a new S-Raw mode for reduced-resolution raw capture.

The 36MP sensor breakdown alone is worth the price, and the chapter on the D810's new exposure metering really cleared up some confusion I had. I've been shooting for years but still learned something new in every section.

I was worried this would just rehash the D800 manual, but the way it walks through the 36MP sensor’s consolidation into the D810’s new extended capabilities made the upgrade finally click for me. The layout is dense but logical, and I’ve already gone back twice to the section on the revised exposure

The chapter on the new autofocus fine-tuning really helped me nail sharp portraits with my 36MP sensor. I've had the D810 for months, but this book finally made the group-area AF mode click for me.
